Long integrations, wide lines require good baselines. Assuming some aspects of the requested ACR mode (two 800 MHz in series).

09/12/02 D. Balser

The spectrometer modes have not been checked out by engineering. The preferred spectrometer mode requires multiple banks which are not yet available. Alternative modes have not yet been discussed but since they are performing a search all 8 samplers are probably required. The spectral baselines will probably be important. They expect linewidths of 100's km/s (5 MHz).

o Observational Setup: - Front End: Ku-band - Back End: Spectrometer

1. Preferred mode Samplers: 8 BW: 800 MHz Level: 3 Banks: 4 (2048 lags; Resolution = 391 kHz) Mode: 1W2-001-800; 1W2-123-800; 1W2-245-800; 1W2-367-800

Notes: (i) Multiple banks cause M&C reliability problems.

- Observing Mode: Double Beam Switching (?)

Baseline shapes may be a problem. Single-bank mode would work but would require twice the telescope time.

Beam switching better than propossed Position Switching. 8 MHz lines and long integrations require good baselines. I'm assuming the 200 MHZ mode of ACR. ACR single-bank mode would double the needed telescope time.
Scheduling Notes
pvdb availability: October through November 9 is lost to travel. Not much planned after that except a trip to New Mexico December 19-26 and a vacation January 2-21. Late November would be perfect!

Very broad lines and long integrations will require good baselines. No idea why cross polarization is requested. Single-bank mode would require 4x the telescope time.

Frequency-switching doesn't seem right for the expected line widths. Maybe BeamSw better but 2x the time needed. Baseline issues.
