Monitoring The Expansion Of Sn 1993j At 6 And 18 Cm |

Abstract |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The radio supernova SN 1993J has been monitored in greatest detail for almost ten years and its shell-like radio structure is expanding in general accord with models of shock excited emission. The shell-like structure is quite circular, suggesting that the shock front is expanding almost isotropically. Nevertheless, the detailed radio monitoring of SN1993J has permitted to show a number of changes, e.g., that the decelerated expansion seems to be better modeled with two slopes, rather than just one; or that the radio spectrum of SN 1993J from 70 to 3000 days displays a clear, albeit slow, evolution with time (# # -1 to # # -0.67; S # # # # ). Since such facts may be not independent of changes in the radio emission structure in the shell, we are now developing a novel approach to determine the detailed radial emission sub-structure in the shell. We request VLBI observations of SN 1993J at 6 and 18cm, in order to i) determine the structure and radial substructure of the radio emission in the shell, and its evolution in time, ii) better understand the details of the expansion, and iii) constrain the physical parameters of the radio supernova. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
